Powet Alphabet: B is for Bat-Girl

Batgirl has been a staple of the Batman mythos for decades, much like Much like Robin, the boy/girl wonder — though for not quite as long. The one near-constant of this title is that the girl in question usually ends up as the current Robin’s girlfriend. That might not be so bad, except the role sentences the unsuspecting Batgirl a slew of terrible fates (in no particular order): being shot, paralyzed, raped, tortured to (apparent) death, and even wiped out of existence. Mostly.

Regardless, I’m sure fans everywhere remember when the very first Bat-Girl, Betty Kane, burst onto the scene with her red, green, and gold outfit.

…bwuh??

Read on to see more about Batwoman’s sidekick, and her not-quite-as-long-as-Robin line of unhyphenated successors.

Stuff You Want for the week of 2011.01.10

Releases are still pretty sparse after the new year so far, but there is one big game dropping this week in the form of DC Universe Online from Sony. I’ve been hearing about Jim Lee working on this game for YEARS now and the beta for many months. I look forward to seeing the feedback and reactions after its release.

Lost Classics: Super R-Type (SNES)

While this week’s Lost Classic may not be as quirky or unique as this week’s $20GOTW (or should that be FGOTW), it’s still worth its place among the shooter genre’s classics, even if there are a couple of huge flaws. Besides, R-Type is part of the holy trinity of horizontal side-scrolling shooters (its other two members include Konami’s Gradius and Taito’s Darius), so this game deserves a mention.

Sailor Moon: La Luna Splende DS game screenshots

Sailor Moon DS Game La Luna Splende Screenshots
Some screenshots have surfaced from the “Sailor Moon: La Luna Splende” Nintendo DS game which we previously reported will be released in Italy this Spring.

Sailor Mars and a Bat

We can only guess as to just how this game will play out but it looks like a classic side scroller kind of game not completely unlike the Sailor Moon S game for the Sega Game Gear.

Sailor Moon vs. Lord Kaspar

We see a “Sailor … vs. Lord Kaspar” screenshot for each of the five girls. Is this a screen showing for a boss battle? Maybe something for a one on one mode? Kaspar would be the Italian name for Kunzite or Malachite as he’s known in the dub. One nice thing seems to be that we shouldn’t need to put up with too much Italian text in this game from what we can see.

Yesterday the Seattle Seahawks caused a major upset by defeating the defending champion New Orleans Saints in the first round of the NFL playoffs. Normally, we geeks do not talk of such things on our geek blogs, but here is Seahawk Marshawn Lynch’s amazing 67 yard touchdown run reenacted in Tecmo Super Bowl.
