Bruce Timm talks Superman: Doomsday

doomsday.jpg
Bruce Timm is responsible directly for some of the best animated series I’ve ever seen. Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League are constantly called by any fan of comics the most faithful and respectful translations of the characters from the page to the screen.

Bruce is still animating DC Comics characters, but this time for direct-to-DVD movies. Newsarama has a 2 part interview up, the first goes over his history, but the second gets to the new stuff, specifically some lingering questions about the animated adaptation of the Death and Return of Superman comic. The film will only run 75 minutes, cutting out all the fat of the 30+ issues of the original story and just sticking to the basics.

No League. No Supergirl. Not even any blood, since they’re aiming for a PG 13 rating. Still, he seems pretty confident they can deliver a good version of the comic original.

Beyond Doomsday, he’s directing an adaptation of New Frontier and Teen Titans: Judas Contract.

Doctor Who Renews for a 4th Season

Doctor Who, Martha and the Tardis

With Doctor Who’s 3rd season just around the corner producer Russell T. Davies has already mentioned that Doctor Who is set to have a 4th season. No specifics of whether or not David Tenant will be returning as the Doctor or if Freema Agyeman will be reprising her role as his assistant Martha have been mentioned at this time.

Series 3 of Doctor Who premieres next Saturday, March 31st, in the UK and later this year in the US and Canada. Stay tuned to Powet.tv as we follow this season’s development as well as all things Doctor Who.

Doctor Who seasons 1 and 2 have both premiered on TVs in the west and are available on DVD:

R2-D2 Mailboxes Handle Mail, Won’t Store Lightsabers

R2-D2 Mailbox

In the crossover we’ve all be waiting for, the US Postal service is teaming up with Star Wars, doing everything in their power to put an R2-D2 unit on every street corner. They even have a website.

The website doesn’t have much on it yet, aside from a brief clip from Star Wars, but the one thing they do mention is that March 28th is the date to watch. Not for the arrival of the mailboxes – they’re already everywhere. What the date celebrates is new Star Wars stamps, which in turn celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars.

If you want to see something really cool, check out the artist’s site HERE, where he describes the process of getting the job and creating the design.

This American Life… On Your TV Box!

Ira Glass of This American Life

Maybe you’ve been listening for the last several weeks to the radio program, and actually sat through the credits. Or perhaps you visit the website for archives, and came across one of the various available YouTube trailers. Or, if you’re like me, you just so happened to be watching watching basic cable when one of their spots came on. If not, you probably had no idea that Chicago Public Radio’s This American Life is making the jump to television, airing the first of six episodes tonight at 10:30 pm ET on Showtime.

The most surprising thing to me? Ira Glass, far from having “a great face for radio”, is somewhat evocative of David Foley (if he had aged much better), maybe with a dash of John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants thrown in there for good measure. It’s gotta be the glasses.

Earlier I said it airs tonight, but — if you have a Digitial TV service with OnDemand — the first episode has actually been available since March 1st. I took at look at it yesterday.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am

athfznpa.jpg
Midway has sent out a press release concerning the long-awaited video game version of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

This is of course the “combat golf game” we heard about last month. Its not due out until fall, and theres no screen shots yet, but we can’t blame Midway for wanting to strike while the iron’s hot for Aqua Teens with the movie.

I only hope and pray the game fully respects the show’s low budget quality. I want sprites and limited animation!

Keep reading for the full announcement and the box art.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army Details

hellboy.jpg
Hellboy was one of the best superhero movies in recent years, and cerainly deserves a quicker follow up than its taking. The original came out in 2004, the sequel is now due August 1, 2008. They had to jump ships from Sony to Universal in the process, but Hellboy should feel at home given the massive Universal monster movie archives.

SuperheroFlix has some details released by Universal on the movie. The immediate good news is the return of the principal cast and director Guillermo del Toro, working from a story by del Toro and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Hellboy, if you don’t know, is based on a Dark Horse comic. He’s a demon from Hell, summoned by the Nazis as a baby, but recruited into work for the US as a paranormal investigator. He files down his gigantic horns to stumps, eats immense amounts of food, has a giant revolver in his left hand, and a giant fist on his right.

Filming should begin in May on location in Budapest.

Get the rest of the fact sheet and a synopsis of the movie after the jump!
