This Week In Halo

halo3ad.jpg
The above image is a still provided by Bungie this week from the Halo 3 commercial which will air on Monday Night Football on December 4 on ESPN in HD. Afterwards, it will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace and probably be ripped and distributed all over internet.

Halo 3 Beta Registration will begin December 4 as well. Its only going to be open to the US initially, but Bungie is promising to roll out registration at the international level shortly. This public play test will be all Xbox 360 and only multiplayer. As can be expected, all details regarding the single player game are still very closely guarded secrets. When Halo 2 came out, players were shocked to find out they’d spend much of the game as The Arbiter, so we can’t imagine what kind of curveball we’ll be thrown this time.

This past week, several Xbox Live players with Microsoft employees on their friend list found Pimps at Sea being played. This has long been the internal joke for what the “next project” would be when Bungie still hadn’t announced Halo 3, so its fairly obvious that multiplayer testing has start to happen on the regular Xbox Live network.

Finally, the king-daddy of video game inspired web films carries continues with its 5th season. Episode 84 of Red Vs Blue is online now, and Tucker must comes to grips with the fact that he’s now the mother of a tiny alien, while the Red team mourns the loss of Sarge, who they buried alive.

Trailer Park

From the Shaun Of The Dead team, here’s “Hot Fuzz” and looks to be about as funny as SoTD was. Watch the embedded video below, or check out a larger quicktime version.

David Fincher, director of Fight Club and Seven, has a new movie about the investiagtion of the Zodiac serial killer, starring Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo and Jake Gyllenballs. Watch the trailer at Zodiacmovie.com

Those who’ve been following the Ultimate Avenger direct-to-DVD movies will want to see the trailer for The Invicible Iron Man.

Also, I found some trailer for a movie about some kid who does magic or something. I don’t know, someone might this think this is cool… http://www.harrypotterorderofthephoenix.com/

New He-Man movie back to square one

Masters Of The UniverseFox 2000 who had the rights and intentions of producing a new movie for the Masters of the Universe franchise have bowed out and handed all rights back to Mattel.

From the article:

Executive Producer Rodney Ferrell (“Flicka”), of Fox2000 pics, tells Moviehole that they’ve just literally just wiped their hands clean of the property.

“This was a project set up at Fox”, begins Ferrell, “but in the recent months we gave the project back to Mattel and are no longer involved”.

The Fantasticar brought to life

Fantasticar (Comics)USAToday is running a story on the vehicle of choice of the Fantastic Four from the upcoming movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

The Fantasticar apparently went through several designs before they were all thrown out. The inspiration for the final design was drawn from ocean dwelling manta ray, giving a more sleek and friendly appearance than the previous designs had offered.

Dave Cockrum passes away at 63

Dave Cockrum, probably best known for his stint on Uncanny X-Men, passed away last week.

While he has not worked on comics in recent years, his work is well known throughout the industry.

I first saw the news posted here. For more information go to that link.

Transformers 2007 Ratchet Design

ratchetg1.jpgThanks to TFormers, we’ve got a very detailed look at a design sheet drawing for Ratchet in the Transformers 2007 movie.

Ratchet from the original Transformers series was the Autobot’s chief medical officer, and transformed into an ambulance. While he might’ve been the obvious choice to peg as the pacifist, he frequently found himself in the heat of some of the most memorable battles in Transformers fiction, including being trapped on the Ark with Megatron, Starscream, Shockwave, and Galvatron from the future.

In the 2007 Transformer movie from director Michael Bay, Ratchet is loaded up as a modified Humvee built for search and resuce. This makes him one of the larger Autobots on the team. His robot mode has been surprisingly unseen in the rash of leaked design sheets, but now we have a sneak peek…

Lost Classics: Soldier of Fortune (PC, Dreamcast, PS2)

220px-soldieroffortunebox.jpgIt’s been a while since I had a Dreamcast title here, so here goes one. This game is also available on PC, and there is an enhanced version on PS2. In late 2001, Sega’s final attempt at console success was on it’s last legs. As a result, and also due to publisher fears of not being able to turn a decent profit, several high profile games had seen only Japanese and European releases (such as Capcom vs SNK 2 and Shenmue 2) while others were simply cancelled altogether. Among the latter was the Dreamcast version of Half Life. However, another game would arrive to alleviate the pain of what had happened: Soldier of Fortune.
